'Dirty Money' Finished Trailer

This is my final product. I am more than pleased with what I have produced I can see the improvements from last year.

Monday 6 December 2010

poster

As you can see I have taken my design ideas from the 'BadBoys 2' movie poster. Using a simple picture from the movie allowed me to keep the same intense atmosphere that is in my movie trailer. I have also named the two main actors names as this allows the audience to recognise who is in the film and may persuade them to go and watch the movie. I have also placed these two peices of text in the middle of the poster as this will be the first thing the audience will look at.

Then I have put the release date and the name of the production company on the poster. These two are important as the audience need to know when the film is going to be realised and some of the audience may recognise the production company and relate it with other successful films.

magazine

As part of my subsidiary tasks I have constructed a magazine front cover. Whilst doing this I wanted to make my front cover look conventional but still taking into account some of the points that I have mentioned in my blog about having a simple front cover that draws the emphasis to the actor on the front cover.

As you can see I have kept the conventional large masthead at the top of the front cover this was used in both of the magazine front covers that I have analysed, both of these have also had a tag line which relates in some way to the film. Another conventional aspect of my magazine front cover is the house style. keeping to the same colour of font is important as i believe it makes the magazine look more professional and when you have a black and white photo this allows you to be flexible with your choice of colour.

Whilst trying to keep conventional I noticed that on the 'Iron Man' front cover that they had used some small pictures along with the main one. As I did not want to follow and copy exactly what they had done I decided to do a sub story that would allow me to use photos that I have taken and put them onto the front cover.

Although I wanted to keep conventional, I decided to break one of the main conventions which is the date and month that the magazine was issued in. If you look at the 'God Father' front cover there is no barcode or date. This again is the simple look that i find so affective.

Overall I am pleased with my front cover as I believe that it looks a realistic and also has the conventional aspects whilst challenging some of the conventions to help build emphasis to the main photo.

Planning my audience feedback

After some thought I am going to use a few methods of presenting my audience feedback. My first idea is to record my audience watching the trailer and see their reaction and then ask then there thoughts on it after. This is a more interactive and interesting way of recording their opinions, rather than just typing it onto here.

Secondly I am going to do a voiceover of the reaction and add this on top of my trailer, this will allow you to see which parts of the film they are referring to without having to look back onto the trailer.

I believe that these two methods are the kind of things I should be doing as a media student, thinking of different ways to present information is key to getting a good grade.

Setback.

Well due to the unpredictable english weather the small airfield that i planed to use to film my last few shots has been closed due to snow and ice. This is quite annoying but these things happen in the real world. However if I was a multimillion pound company making this trailer I would just CGI my own airfield and my own plane, sadly I am the complete opposite to this so instead I plan to do a shadow shot of the chief contestable giving orders to his two police officers. Which will then lead into the next scene.

Another version, but this time a little slower...

As I have said before i have been trying out some slow motion shots and ive finally found a place which I believe the shot should go and look good without being too random or in some peoples cases they just put shots in the trailer for the sake of it. As I have used the door knocking scene I have been able to slow down this part of the scene and then place it before Mark opens the door.
You will find this below.

Transporter 3 film poster

This is the Transporter 3 film poster and as you can see again this is very simple. THey have used a blank background with an action shot of the main actor. However we can see that they have edited an image of a woman and a car into the middle of the poster which will have been done using photoshop. This poster also has the names of the people who have produced, filmed and distributed it below the film title. There is also a tag line above the film title which relates to the film, I think that this is a good touch and I may use it in my own poster. I seem to get the impression that the film title is the same font as the main actors name which makes me think that the actor is more important than the films content ?... maybe thats just my thought on the matter.

Badboys 2 film poster

As you can the film poster is simple. It gives the readers the two main actors names in bold and this makes them stand out from the poster. As a poster is not meant to be studied or read for long periods of time, I believe that this poster is very affective as you can see there is action happening from the image, as I love this film I can tell you that this has been taken from the actual movie and photoshoped together. I also like the rugged look that the poster has around the edge.

This has been edited on professional software and produced by professionals. As i will be editing on Microsoft Publisher I will not be able to meet the same quality as this but I can try and use some of their ideas to make them my own. I may chose to do the same as this poster and take screenshots from my trailer. But we will see.

Everyone else is analysing my trailer so im going to jump on the band wagon

As I am working around two stimulus's 'Badboys 2' and 'Transporter 3' I have made a list of things that appear in both of these trailers that I believe would be effective and conventional for my trailer, also in this list you will find ways that I have improved my trailer from the last editing these are;

Transitions like badboys 2
Shorten drug lines scene
Shorten mark coming down the stairs
Cut in half mark coming down stairs then one man one job in the middle
Really fast montage in the middle
Cut after 'we know your in there'
More music, atmospheric
Quiet bits with more diolouge
Names of actors all capitals (sound effects)
From producer
Love interest story
Maybe flash cut in the middle of scenes
Titles at end
Voice over before the knock at the door…

Transporter 3:
Flash cuts
Atmospheric music
Slow motion
Thrash guitar

All of these factors i believe will improve my trailer and I will be working towards these over the next week.

But so far i believe that my trailer is looking conventional and the variety of shots that I have used creates a high quality and I believe it helps with the atmosphere of the trailer. The music i have chosen has a lot of guitar in it as I believe that this builds up the tension in the trailer. The use of my voiceovers create the conventional feel to the trailer as we rarely watch a film trailer without a voice over. You may notice I have used alot of flash cuts, these are again conventional but I also feel that they give a fast and exiting feel to the trailer which is one of the main aims that I wanted to create whist editing and shooting my trailer.
Overall I am more than happy with my progress and It will be completed shortly.

Audience reviews

having conducted an audience review with a voice over I have found that my feedback has been positive and that my audience liked how I had edited the piece and also they thought that my trailer is looking conventional which is what I am aiming for. As the filming in not quite finished I believe it is important to do this now as I can now plan my other shots around what is liked and not liked from my audience. This is a very simple but affective way of getting feedback.

(video)

Classification and age rating

For my trailer I think it would be appropriate to rate it as a acceptable for all users, which is why I have put this at the beginning of my trailer. As you can see below there is a range of different ratings trailers do not tend to have a rating they are either acceptable for all viewers and are put onto t.v or if the trailer is not, for example the Human Centipede then the trailer will be put on the films website which should then have an age requirement.

These ratings are not as important to trailers but to films they are a big factor as these will determine your target market if you are making a 15 rated film you need to target audiences from 15 and above so the content must be acceptable.

An editing idea...

Thinking about trying to use some green screen footage in my trailer. This will be used with a voiceover and will show the chief of police briefing the two officers. This will go over the drug cutting clip and I think will lead nicely into the next scene as we see the two policemen at the door.

Having never used green screen to film footage this will be a new test for me. I will have a go tomorrow and upload my attempt.

another version...

Ive added some more music to this version not sure if I like it yet but I will be getting some audience feedback and that will allow me to get a second opinion.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product has been kept very conventional as possible I have used two of what i deem to be the best thriller trailers. Using these I have looked at some of the key elements that I think are affective such as the slow motion shots in transporter this can be done but I would like to find a way that i can use if with effect rather than just using it because it looks good.

Also I would like to add a fast montage edit scene into my trailer these are used for action scenes but I would like to challenge this and combined it with a love interest story. So i believe that so far my media product is conventional with the use of flash edits and cuts but I also believe that I can challenge these conventions with my new pieces of filming.

How have you used new media technologies in the research, planning, construction and evaluation stages?

Throughout my project I have tried to use technology as much as I could. I believe that this is important for a media student as this is where new media is going to come from, the advances on current technology.

Using Imovie 9 to edit on may be a simple piece of editing software, but it does allow you to do most of the main editing techniques needed for a trailer. Having the ability to cut and crop clips on the computer takes seconds. Whereas if we did not have this technology we would be stuck cutting and sticking pieces of film, Which is time consuming and tedious. Imovies also allows you to do voiceovers straight onto your film, this allows you to place the voiceover exactly where you want it within seconds of recording it.

It also allows you to publish your work straight you youtube or to Itunes which makes uploading my videos to blogger very simple. Also the use of the internet in the research part of my coursework has been very helpful as it allowed me to go onto Youtube and look at other conventional trailers in my thriller genre which I could then analyse.

Moving on to the video camera I have been using a Panasonic HD camera which is amazing, high definition makes the image so clear and crisp. This may be a disadvantage for some types of genre but for a thriller trailer it is perfect. Also I have used Itunes to import music on to my trailer digital music makes the life of media students so much easier.

Again Imovie 9 will allow me to record my audience feed back on my new conventional piece of filming, i will be producing voice overs and video interview. I find doing these types of audience feedback will be more affective than an simple and boring questionnaire.

Other pieces of technology used such as my mobile phone which had been used to contact my actors from my call sheet, without this it would be hard to get hold and arrange meeting with my actors.

If we did not have these types of new media we would be limited to our creative ability and for a media student being limited creativity is the most frustrating thing in the world.

some more filming and some OCD editing

After the snow disaster this did give me a chance to edit my new footage. Whilst doing this I made sure I was checking back to my Badboys 2 trailer and also the Transporter 3 trailer to make sure I was including all of the conventional elements in my trailer. As you can see i have added some new shots, music and titles.

I detest snow...

I had the entire days filming planned for saturday going to the airport and going up in a plane... but due to snow and ice the planes could not fly. This has left me abit frustrated, but none the less i managed to do some filming at my house that night so it wasn't a wasted day after all..

Thursday 18 November 2010

Whats next...

Well plans for next weekend are to go to Cranfield Airport to do some filming in a plane. I have organised to go up with my dad to get some shots of a runway and the cockpit. These shots will be used to give the audience an idea that the drug dealer mat be leaving the country.

As most of my filming has been done at night I may do some filming in the day tomorrow inside of my car. I plan to shoot some shots of character talking in the car and also try to create a police chase scene.

Overall I am happy with my progress so far and i believe that when it is done it will have been done to the best of my ability.

Wednesday 17 November 2010

busy busy busy

Well the week has been full of filming and editing but ive come up with yet another version of the trailer. As you can see ive added some new clips and edits whilst adding music over the top of some clips. enjoy.

Tuesday 9 November 2010

some more footage and editing

This is my new version of my trailer this includes my scenes that were filmed at the police station. I have added some flash edits to resemble some flash backs. Next week I plan to do some filming in an aeroplane at night time.

Wednesday 20 October 2010

My first piece of filming

This is my first piece of filming for my trailer. The emphasis on this beginning is speed. I believe that this will grab the audiences attention whilst giving and affective and exciting start to my trailer. As you can see some shots are quite 'wobbly', but this will be sorted and re filmed tomorrow night controlling your hands as a car accelerates is not easy. But there is much more to come !

Editing Techniques.

As editing is an important part of any movie trailer knowing some of the techniques used in the media industry is key. This will help me to gain a more realistic feel to my trailer.

The 180 degree rule: The imaginary line that passes from side to side through the actors. We should not be able to see past that line as it confuses the audiences as they see the characters from different points of the scenic.

Parallel Editing: Cross cutting between two or more lines of action going on in different locations of scenes. This is similar to what a trailer does with montage editing. I believe that this could be a new way of editing my trailer. I will do some more research and experiment with this method.

Matching Eyelines: An edit that follows the 180 degree rule, in which the first shot shows a person looking in one direction and the second shows the space containing what a person sees. This is a good technique for my opening shot where we see the drug dealer looking at a certain point in the car park. I will then switch to see what the drug dealer is looking at.

Match on Action: An edit that puts two different shots of the same action together making it appear to continue uninterrupted. This is a good technique and i believe brings a bit of originality and though to a production.

Shot, Reverse, Shot: Two shots edited back and forward between two characters. This could be used for the face off scene where we see two characters interacting with each other. It might be abit unusual to have this in a trailer but i will have to experiment different ideas.

All of these techniques are use full and will play some role in my trailer. Even if they do not work they will be mentioned in my rejected ideas.

Scriptwriting.

After reading through the 'How to make films' handbook from the Guardian I have discovered some key aspects to scriptwriting. the first is:

Exposition: this is the opening premise and setting of the scene. This would be where we see the drug dealer and the two drug addicts in the car park. The words that the actors say will be key to getting the correct atmosphere in this shot.

Development: The situation is built on and moves forward. This is where the storyline develops and other sub stories may appear into the trailer. This may not apply to much to a trailer but some scenes will need to be developed on and this will be useful for these scenes.

Complication: An event that changes the situation. We will be seeing a jail cell in my trailer, this will represent that there has been a complication in the drug dealers plans. This scene could be the turning point in my trailer and may change the feeling and the locations.

Climax: A decisive point where everything comes together. This is something that should not be done in a trailer. My trailer is showing the audience various aspects of what would become the finished film. Giving away the climax would ruin the film. Although this could be done cleverly to give the audience a false idea of what the climax actually it. What the climax appears to be in the trailer could be the opposite in the final movie.

Resolution: The outcome has been reached. Some aspects of this can be put into my trailer for example the drug dealer could break out of jail, or the drug addicts could overcome their addiction. There are a lot of possibilities to this resolution but i have not decided on mine yet.

This booklet seems to have a large amount of guidance and theory. Reading this may give me some new ideas for my trailer...

Call Sheet

Below you will find all of my Actors and Actresses mobile phone numbers these will be used for my call sheet I am aware that in the industry you will have to have many other aspects to this sheet, such as, phone numbers, location, lunch times, camera man, camera grip and microphone. But for what I need the Actors/Actresses only need to know the location and the times of days.

Below you will find the phone numbers of my Actors/Actresses:

Grace:+447917757181

Carly:+447707135721

Simon:+440789154611

Imogen:+44078187633

I will then send a text out out the characters a week before filming so that they are aware of when we are filming and what they need to wear. I believe that this be affective and will allow me to film affectively.

Possible Actors and Actresses

Below you will find all of my possible actors and actresses that would be in my film. These are all media students and are willing to dress up in the suitable costumes. I have also spoken to them about when they will be available and they have all confirmed that they will be here during the October half term. I trust all of these people and am willing to rely on them to make all of the filming times. Some of these people have drama experiences so the acting will not be a problem.

I will be producing a call sheet that will consist of all of the Actors and Actresses phone numbers that I will be contacting via text with the times ad dates of filming.

Sunday 17 October 2010

Weekend at the police station.

After doing my test shots I decided to go to the local police station to try and gain access to one of their cells. This is not as easy as you may think, they have taken all of my details and now they are ringing the police head office and they will get back to me. They said there is a lot of health and safety aspects that they need to carry out on me before they let me into the cell. They will be getting back to me soon. So progress is being made.

Test Shots

Below you can see a test shot that i have taken using a Gorilla Pod. I am going to be using cars for some of my footage so I needed to make sure that these shots would work and below you can see that they do. There was only one problem with the sound, there is a crackling noise when i played the film back but this will be editing and music will be played on top of this clip so that the crackling will not be heard. (no speed limits were broken during the making of this film)

After my first test shot i decided that it would be a good idea to go to the gravel car park and see what types of sound i can get from the gravel to see if it is affective enough to put into my film and this is what I came up with. As you can hear it gives a really clear a crisp crunching sound which is perfect for what I need.

'How are males represented in the trailer for 'BadBoys'

During the BadBoys trailer Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are represented in many ways to please and satisfy different target audiences. Firstly we see the actors on a high building with both of their shirts open, this is portraying them to be sexy and attractive, which must be aimed to a female audience as men are more interested in the action than the looks of the actors. Whereas women will be more interested in how the actors look, this may sway them to watch the film.

We then see Will Smith in an action shot with a gun in his hand. This represents power and shows him as a fearless figure being represented like this is more stereotypical about policemen or 'cops' in America. Again this links back to the first picture as his shirt is still open so whilst trying to create action for the male audiences they are also trying to attract a female audience, by having some flesh on show.

Following this we then see Martian Lawrence shooting a hole in a door, this shows him as being careless and a care free attitude, this is another typical stereotype of males in this thriller genre they are seen as careless and almost 'cocky'. This shot backs up the representation of power in the previous paragraph.

After we see Martian lawrence and Will Smith comparing body counts and how many people they have killed since the job began. This represents both characters to be competitive and also shows that they have big egos. In this shot we see both actors trying to do on better than the other which is typical for these types of films, there is always competition between the actors and a small subplot.

We then see both actors entering a house and Will Smith says ' Don't be alarmed were Negroes' followed by Martian Lawrence saying 'we need to sounds like them, we was wondering if we could borrow a cup of brown sugar' this shows the pair as being jokers and represents there care free attitude as we assume them to be in a dangerous environment as they are both carrying their guns. As we get further into the trailer I think we loose the directors intent on getting the female audience.

After we see Martian Lawrence punching someone who we assume to be a bad guy. This is the first real piece of violence that we see, this shows that even though they seen to be a comical joking pair they have a violent side to them making them almost unpredictable as the audience does not know if they are being serious or joking. This is another typical stereotype for this genre. You cannot have a thriller film without violence.

We then see Will smith diving through the air to save a girl in a gun fight, this represents him as being heroic. Again in these types of films we always have some heroic action and this backs up the careless representation and show that he will do anything for his job. Another representation for this shot is commitment he is committed to his job.

In conclusion I believe that in this trailer the male actors are represented as, attractive, powerful, careless, competitive, comical, violent and finally heroic. I will be using these representations in my trailer and trying to experiment with some other representations.

Script and Description.

After analysing some existing film trailers I have discovered that the types of trailer I want to create all use a balance between serious dialogue and some comical dialogue. This has made me think about what types of dialogue I need in my trailer make it realistic. As my trailer is about drugs I think that having some comical aspects to my script will be affective. After thinking about this I have come up with some dialogue, these are not final they are only ideas that may be used and adapted.

* 'you got the drugs,' - ' no im here for the good of my health'
* 'you've got two options, give me the drugs or ill shoot you and take them, its up to you'
* 'how long have i known you ?, you know i own this shit'
* 'this is the last time i save your ass'
* 'I know this guy, I know how he works, and it aint nice'
* 'we get in we get the drugs we get out' - 'man you know we dont work like that'
* 'well id love to stay and talk but im being shot at'
* 'get my god dam drugs'

As you can see from above i have some serious and some comical dialogue. However bad they may be these are the types of lines that are used in trailers and i believe that I now have a better idea about what my actors will be saying and this now allows me to think about my characterisation. Also I am aware that i have to think about age restrictions if I have any swearing in my trailer this Is some thing I may have to look into further.

Filming Schedule

As the October half term is coming up soon I think that this is a prime time to be focusing on my media trailer. During this time I l plan to film:

Opening scenes- Car speeding into the car park, foot crunching onto the gravel and the two drug addicts sitting in the car. this shall be shot at night using car head lights for additional light when it is needed.

The airport scene- Shooting a plane taking off and landing in the day time i would love to have this shot at night time but the light would not be good so I adapt this part of the film to daytime.

The prison scene- I hope once i get permission to be able to do the shot of an empty jail cell. I have been badgering the jail for a while now and no response so far, I shall be ringing them this weekend to try and finally confirm.

The face off scene- Shooting the scene where character one and character two face off to each other would be great. I plan to let the actors know in advance when I need then to be available and we can then work to a date.

Trailer Conventions.

This is the trailer for once of the my favourite thriller movie 'BadBoys 2'. This trailer has similar themes to what I am going to produce in my film trailer. It has cars in and different ways of conveying speed and adrenaline which i believe I can use in my trailer. I do realise that this film was produced on a massive multi million pound budget and obviously I do not have that but i do plan to take some of the conventional ideas and adapt them into my trailer.

Firstly the trailer starts with a setting shot showing the 'Miami' billboard this tells the audience straight away that this is set in a large scale city. This gives the audience and idea of what surrounding and locations to expect. Then we see a lot of jump and flash cuts in the trailer which is typical as it is a montage of different scenes from the movie. The dialogue used in the trailer is kept to short sentences and are usually serious of comical. These are edited to that they can be out of context and give the trailer a completely different feel to the movie. As this is a Thriller genre trailer you would expect there to be lots of action shots this is another aspect i want to be able to bring into my trailer. Also the music tend to contain drum beats and guitars and tends to build suspense and maximise the action with thrilling music.

During the Trailer you will also see the actors that are starring in the movie and there names will normally be presented onto a black background. You will also see the major companies that have been involved in the production of the movie this allows the audience to see which companies have created and also creates awareness about these companies. You will also see the directors name in a similar way to the actors.

Finally the main aim of this trailer is to give the audience a rough idea of the storyline and some of the sub stories in the trailer, I believe that this trailer does this very well and also has given me many ideas that i can take forward and adapt to the themes of my trailer.

Above is the 'Transporter 3' trailer this is another favourite trailer of mine as again it has similar aspects and conventions to the 'Badboys 2' trailer. In the opening shot we see the shot of the main actor this directly shows the audience who is in the movie. Again we see lots of text in the trailer with dialogue this is done as the movie is a sequel and the text links in with that. Again typical to a Thriller trailer we see lots of action and glass smashing which ties in with the films massive budget. Following on from 'BadBoys 2' we see lots of jump cuts and montage editing.

This trailer gives the audience some background story about the characters and again uses the mixture of comical and serious dialogue. We also see different types of fast car shots that creates adrenaline and i believe that this can be used in my trailer. I also like the use of different camera angles used in the trailer to manipulate speed.

Equiptment and Resources.

Below you will find all ofthe equiptment and resources such as cars that will be ussed in my trailer.I will then explain next to each picture why i have chosen to use them and what they will be used for.

This is the main piece of equipment that I will be using in my media trailer, this is the Panasonic full HD video camera. I have chosen to use this as you get a clearer image and it gives film a more realistic quality about it. Clips may take longer to upload to blogger and to itunes but it is all worth it when you see the quality at the end.

This is another resource that I have this is my car which I plan to use for the drug dealing scenes. This car will be used for the drug addicts to be in in the opening scene. As it is my car there will be no problems with not being able to access it.

This is the main car that the audience will be seeing in the trailer. This is my dads car and it will be used for the drug dealers car. I have chosen this as it is a performance car and as I want high speed scenes in the trailer it is the perfect car for the job. again there will be no problems in accessing this car as it is always available for me to use.

Location Photos.

Above you will find the starting locations for my trailer. These photos were taken in a car park near my school. As you can see from some of the images there is some gravel in the car park which will be used for the scenes where we see the drug dealers foot crunching on the gravel. Also you can see the concrete where the drug dealer will be speeding into the car park.

This location will be easy to use as it is free after school times at about 4 or 5 o'clock having this as an opening shot will set the scene for the rest of the film.

Textual analysis.

Having done my major plans for my trailer I thought that it would be a good idea to start on my magazine front cover. Before starting on the production of my front cover I thought it would be best to do a textual analysis of two different types of magazine front covers. The first front cover is a conventional cover which involves all of the conventional aspects such as: tag lines, custom logo to fit the theme of the front cover, house styles, previews of the content of the magazine, descriptive words such as ' amazing', 'ultimate', 'exclusive' and 'first look', the large image of an iconic character and even the barcode location.

As this front cover looks amazing and has all of the eye grabbing aspects that you would expect to see on a front cover. however I prefer the idea of a simple but affective front cover similar to the one you can see here, with Marlon Brando on the front cover, as this is not a conventional front cover I am apprehensive about creating one for my media coursework as I do not want to risk getting a bad mark.

As you can see from this cover it has limited any conventional aspects to a point. They still have the iconic image and the tag line on the cover but thats it. Seeing the image you can see that there has been a lot of thought and planning that has gone into the photo. The lighting has been done to highlight the wrinkles on his face and darken his eyes to give a powerful facial expression. Also the image has been taken in black and white which i believe shows class and gives the cover a classic feel.

The magazine title is the second point of focus in this cover as your eyes are completely focused onto Marlon Brando.

I believe that doing this textual analysis has given me a good understanding on some typical magazine covers and I now have some great ideas that I can use for my magazine.

Storyboard.

Having completed my storyboard I have decided to upload it to my blog. As you can see from the storyboard my trailer will begin in a dusty car park where my father who is the drug dealer will drive into the car park at high speed this will be shot from multiple angles to give a range of different effects. Following this the drug dealer will pull up in front of my car. This will be representing the drug dealer and the cast in my car as the drug addicts. After this shot I am going to have a shot of the drug dealers foot stepping out of the car onto the dusty car park.

Then we will see a shot of the drug addicts inside of the car, this will be as an over the shoulder shot from the point of view of the drug dealer. This will show the drug dealer as being mysterious as we will not be showing his face in the trailer. Following this shot I will have the drug dealer speeding out of the car park and this will signify the end of this part of the trailer. I want to be able to get the audiences adrenaline pumping, so i may take some shots of the rev counts and the speedometer as well. This will give the effect of speed and danger.

Following this shot we will see a shot of some empty cells in a prison, in my previous posts you will see how i plan to gain entry to the prison. Showing blank cells will give an enigma code in the trailer making the audience wanting to know why we are n a prison and what is going on. After this shot we will see an aeroplane taking off from a runway, this will be possible as my father fly's planes and has arranged a date for me to go and film him on the runway. This again links in with the enigma code and makes the audience think about why is there an aeroplane taking off. This will be followed by the same style of shot as before with the drug dealer stepping out of and aeroplane this time instead of a car.

Finally we will have some text on the screen with the words 'What you don't know wont hurt you', then we will cut to the final shot again over the shoulder of the drug dealer in a stand off with the drug addicts from the start of the trailer. In this shot there will be some rubbish scattered on the floor. I need to think about the mise-en-scene carefully in this trailer as i need everything to be perfect as if I have something that isn't needed in a scene it could ruin the film. For example if we had a school signpost in the background of the drug dealing shot this would ruin the shot as it would be unrealistic that a drug dealer would use this location.

I am excited about my idea and am looking forward to starting my trailer, please excuse the awful drawing on my storyboard as you can see this is why i did not take art as an A level.

Progress.

Having emailed the prison that i plan to film in to try and gain aces. I have emailed the admissions officer and i have had a reply telling me that they will get back to me when they have cleared it with security. I am very excited about this possible idea and will be filming as soon as I get clearance.

Empire magazine front cover analysis.

As you can see this is not a conventional magazine cover. There is nothing about what is inside of the magazine, for example 'top 10 movies of all time'. The cover doesn't even feature a barcode. Although it is not conventional and does not follow the 'rules' of magazine front covers, it does stand out and makes you think ' wow'.

Personally I would love to create a front cover like this one with minimal text, that emphasises the iconic figure. But I believe that doing this cover for my coursework would not allow me to gain the highest marks possible. This cover does not show that I understand the conventions of magazine front covers. Also it does not show that I am aware of how magazines advertise their front covers to get their potential audiences to read the magazine. For example, Having 'World Exclusive' written in bold writing, in an experimental font and a large image draws the audiences attention.

So rather than risk getting a poor grade for doing something simple but affective I have chosen to go down the conventional route with a cover that will hopefully look as good as this.

As you can see it has all of the conventional aspects that a magazine should have and i believe that with some time and effort I will be able to create a cover that looks as good if not better than this.

Ideas...

After speaking to some people and thinking of some ideas myself, I have found a studio that I can use at Cranfield Univercity. I will not be able to shoot all of my movie in this studio as i want to be able to shoot some of the opening shots in a dusy car park, also i would like to use the airport and the runway to shoot some planes taking off and landing. Finally I plan to use a prision that I can gain acess to and do some filming of empty cell. This will depend on if I gain permission into the prision.

I have done a story board to follow this and it will be uploaded soon.

What have I been doing over the summer.

Over the summer I have been doing work experience for a client, called Matt Sutton, he is a personal trainer who does a bootcamp training session. He needed a promotional video for his website, so he asked me to help him out. I decided to do some montage editing and added some Ken Burns aswell. I believe that this has helped me with planing my coursework, and has also made me realise how you need to plan for a customer and then you have to meet their expectations.

Also having recently watched S.A.L.T this has given me some inspiration for my product.

Location, Location, Location

After going out and looking and a few locations I have decided to use the opening of a building site, this may sound an odd location to film on but there are large concrete blocks. This will be the location for the drug dealing scene which will be filmed at night. You may think that filming at night time would be a problem but plan to use the light from my car, this will give a lot of light so the camera can pick it up but mainly this will look realistic with cars in the scene.

Inception Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziixLbLKBXU&hd=1

This is the url of the new thriller film called Inception. After watching this trailer I have got some good ideas that I can use and apply on my trailer. This trailer uses music the entire way through, it changes volume and also speed to fit with the trailer. I will also use this in my trailer and this will be conventional.

Another conventionIi have noticed is that it is full of cuts and is montage edited which means that my trailer does not have to have any chronological sequence. the main aim of this trailer is to give the audience a brief idea of the plot whilst also at the same time not giving away too much of the plot.

The use of big budget editing is something that I will not be able to achieve, but i will be taking some of their slow motion ideas and applying them to my trailer. Finally I will be going to watch this on the 16th of july when it is released to get more ideas for my trailer.

Idea !

After doing a proposal in our media lesson I have finally decided on an idea. I am going to create a 'teaser tralier' for a thriller genre film. The plot will be constructed around 'someone who sees too much', this will be a drug dealer who murderes one of his clients due to late payment. Then another client happens to see the murder as it was happening, the drug dealer spots the other client and thus knows that the client knows about the murder.

I am going to think very carefully about what I put into the trailer, as I do not want to give away too much of the plot so that the viewer knows the main part of the film. I am getting quite excited about this trailer and this is leading to my motivation being boosted. I will post some more initial idea soon.

Coursework breif

I am stuck between two ideas, I will either choose a music video or a teaser trailer of a film. I have chosen these as I believe that they are the most interesting and they will allow me to add a new piece to my portfolio to take to University interview.

I will research both areas of my chosen options, for example ' looking into conventions of music videos and film trailer. I will then need to plan who and what goes into it. After this I will have to plan my filming schedule to ensure that I meet the deadline. whilst keeping up to date with my blogs.

Depending on the option that I chose I will then have to decide on what locations I will film in. For this I will use some unique and different locations that will make my chosen option stand out from the rest.

Deciding on my coursework option

After looking at the options for my media coursework I have decided on option two. This is " A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options" from these options I have chosen to do " a film magazine front cover, featuring the film." and also " a poster for a film ".

I believe that this will allow me to showcase all of the media techniques that I have learnt during AS media and also allow me to adopt some new techniques that I am going to learn in A2 media. Also as I want to carry on studying the production of media at university, I will be able to showcase my interest in the subject and also my ideas.
